Age of Conan allows for a limited time single player experience, which you can use to get accustomed to the game, user interface and controls． Of course it's not all about learning, plenty of adventure also awaits you during this time． In the single player portion of Age of Conan you may still communicate with others on the same server． Although you may spend as long as you like exploring the beach and jungle, you should be able to reach the city of Tortage within an hour, at which time you will begin to see other players． Once you hit Tortage you are able to switch between the single player story (night) and multiplayer stories (day) freely．

After a few more games we started learning the cues． Auras surround character's protected areas． So if we saw an opening above the character's head a downward slash would be used． If they were unarmoured on the left, we'd attack accordingly． You have to be swift, fast on your feet and a quick thinker． The combat gets quite deep and having the right attacks hot keyed to the numerical keys was essential． You'd find yourself trying to use a deadly equation of 1's, 2's and 8's． The games were fierce and fast, bloody and utterly engaging． We would have liked more modes of PvP combat but what we got was great - even though our poor barbarian was frequently battered about．
